The How Tos of Hair Braiding

Materials:

  • braiding hair(Kanekalon)
  • edge control or hair moisturizer ( Murray’s edge-wax, Olive oil edge control, Blue Magic)
  • comb (rattail)
  • scissors (safety)
  • hair ties
  1. Start with clean hair. Moisturize with hair moisturizer (coconut oil, Blue Magic, etc).
  2. Open the pack of hair, and lay it to the side.
  3. Use the rat tail comb to begin parting the hair in squares, triangles, rectangles or whatever shape you prefer.
  4. Pick up the hair, making sure that you have enough for the size of the braid.
  5. To start the first braid, begin by separating one small section of the hair into three smaller sections. Use the hair ties to hold the rest of the hair out of your way.
  6. Begin braiding by adding the synthetic or human hair to the smaller sections close to the scalp.
  7. Braid all the way to the ends.
  8. Repeat steps 1 through 6 until you have completed the entire head.
  9. When you get close to the last braid, start boiling hot water, and get a towel. (if you want curls, use rollers before dipping.)
  10. After the last braid, dip the hair in the hot water to avoid unraveling. Use the towel to dry.
  11. Use mousse or hairspray to moisturize the braids.
  12. If needed, clip hairs that stick out of the braids.
  13. Use the edge control to lay edges down.

To maintain your braids, moisturize frequently and cover with a satin scarf at night.
